About Nishat Garden, Nishat Garden is a Multistep Mughal garden. It was built on the eastern side of Dal Lake which is close to Srinagar. It is the second-largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley. The largest in size is the Shalimar Bagh, which is also located on the bank of the Dal Lake. ‘Nishat Bagh’ means “Garden of Joy,” “Garden of Gladness” and “Garden of Delight.” Location Nishat Garden is located on the bank of Dal Lake. It has the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop. Nishat Bagh is a garden full of bliss. Its magnificent view of the Dal lake adds to its beauty. The Nishat garden was made by Asif Khan in 1633. Asif khan was the elder brother of Nur Jehan. The story of the Nishat garden: When Shah Jahan saw this garden, he expressed great appreciation for its beauty. He expressed his appreciation three times to Asif Khan, with the hope that he would gift it to him however no such offer was made by Asif Khan. Shah Jahan became angry and ordered the closure of the water supply to the garden. Then after some time, Nishat garden was deserted. while Asif khan was resting under the shade of a tree, his servant turned on the water supply. When Asif Khan heard the sound of water and the fountains, he immediately ordered the closure of the water supply as he feared the emperor for disobedience. Fortunately, Shah Jahan heard about this incident, he appreciated the servant for loyal service to his master and then ordered full restoration rights for the supply of water to the garden to Asif Khan, his Prime Minister and father-in-law.
