What Do You See!

The world appears to be the same for everyone; the wind serves the same purpose to the rich as to the poor, the water quenches the thirst of all classes, the trees bear fruits for all the species. Yet, the very definition of “our world” varies significantly from person to person. We all may breathe in the same air, but the rhythm of breathing varies; some go slow, taking each breath as it comes, while others go on chasing what remains of the last one. Our entire world is summed up in one tiny lobe of flesh- the brain, and It makes all the difference.

Having a rudimentary knowledge of psychology, I can say that the way you think dramatically influences the way things work for you in life. Your mind has all the doors- doors of happiness, sadness, anxiety, joy, fear, and so on. You don’t even need to knock it for it to open. The brain does that job for you by simply seeing your steps approaching your choice of gate. The system up there is intense and complicated; utter a good word and stick around for a while and say a bad one, and you will find a foe for life.

A few years back, I was rummaging through some pages, and one quote caught my eye. It goes like, ” I am not who you think I am; I am not who I think I am; I am who I think you think I am.” It took me a while to absorb the very meaning of this quote. Initially, what appeared to be a tongue twister, turned out to be the most significant life lesson. It was succinct and apt. That explained why we see what we see. We have a predetermined image in mind of everyone and everything, and we settle to this notion that whatever we are thinking is true. If you think you are smart, that will be reflected in your personality, and if you feel you are always angry, you will start to be cross without reason. And whatever we say to ourselves, our subconscious immediately absorbs it and what comes out from our conscious self is a mirror image of the same. Whatever goes on in the very upper part of the body has ramifications for the rest of it. So let’s reflect on what we see in case of any situation, question if the suppositions make sense, challenge the negative thoughts, and always be respectful towards self because whatever you are feeding your mind, you are reacting to the same. One simple tip to increase your belief in yourself is self-affirmation. Try to say good things about yourself, forgive for shortcomings, and embrace each phase as it comes. And remember, we are what we see.
