About Leh:
Leh was the capital of the Himalayan area of Ladakh. It lies at an altitude of 3,524 metres (11,562 ft). Leh connects with Srinagar via national Highway 1 and with Manali via Leh-Manali Highway. Leh was heavily damaged due to cloud burst which caused floods. sudden floods caused by a cloud burst in 2010. It was an important hub on trade routes between Tibet to the east, Kashmir to the west and also lies between India and China. The main goods traded were salt, grains, pashmina or cashmere wool fabric, indigo, silk yarn, Banaras brocade and even weed.
Leh welcommed tourists after 1974. An increasing number of tourists visit Leh due to its attractive serene landscape, culture, tradition, valleys etc. and it still has more and more potential for adventure tourism. Leh attracts a large inflow of tourists both from home and abroad, furthermore, it is an important destination on international tourist map. The economy of the region depends much on tourism. Which is the main reason of Leh having large number of Hotels, guest houses and taxis. There are approximately 250 hotels and guest houses of different classes. Some of the most popular monasteries of Ladakh are in leh, such as Alchi, Lamayuru, Shey and Thiksay. These monasteries attract large domestic as well as foreign tourists. Pangong tso lake(Half in China) and world highest motorable road Khardongla (18350 fts) are both in Leh. mountains of leh are also one of the main attractions of Leh. 3 idiots, a famous bollywood movie, has some of its scenes from leh.
