The Unleashed Power:

The world is moving fast, as we have witnessed in the past few decades. Ranging from hi-tech industries to doorstep services, we have evolved substantially. Economic growth has always been the most crucial goal of changing societies. The massive development in different fields of life has led acted as a catalyst to make life more comfortable and tech-based. But at what cost are we creating these transitions? Who is getting trampled under the feet of this development? How many are there who are choking to death due to the greediness of some sections of society? At what cost are we giving green signals to all these “so-called” developmental projects? Are they for the betterment of the community as a whole or just for a specific lot? All these questions are lurking in the dark.

The advances made in science, medicines, engineering, and other vital areas have come at a cost. The cost is our environment. The unprecedented use of fossil fuels, generation of carbon at extremely high levels, cutting down of trees, loss of habitat and coral reefs, and many other numerous examples are just the beginning of the end of this planet called Earth. The carbon emissions from the past few decades have added up to the already flared-up temperature. We do not only see animal-man conflict but rising levels of the sea, melting of glaciers, melting of permafrost, health issues, and unending natural disasters. It is high time to take some groundbreaking steps to change the current scenario and salvage the Earth before it is too late. The revolutionizing changes that we aspire to see shouldn’t turn into the reason for marring this sole habitat of ours. The political and economic changes are the need of the hour to combat climate change.

 Economic Perspective:

The world’s growing economies can serve as a driving force to overcome the environmental issues faced by one and all. They have the power to shift the dependence mostly on renewable energy, serving as a model for other countries to follow a similar pattern. Economic changes such as creating environmentally friendly products, minimizing the pressure on natural resources, and ensuring that the waste from manufacturing industries is treated efficiently are just some of the critical steps. It is the need of the hour to make our economies more eco-friendly.

Economic ties among the nations need to be strengthened so that the countries rich in specific resources can be exploited optimally, making the shift to renewable resources easy and hassle-free. Economic policies need a change, though profit is the main aim of any economy, durability, and sustainability are the necessary elements. The waste produced from industries pollutes the environment and acts as a dangerous hazard for the general population’s health. It is incumbent upon the ruling governments to allow only those industries to function that abide by the environmental rules and regulations. The sectors that deceive the government and general population create havoc and further pressurize the already vulnerable resources. Social costs need to be placed aptly on these industries, and after every five years, their efficiency and machinery should be checked and scrutinized thoroughly.

Moreover, economic policies need to be framed to consider the whole of the economy and not just a particular section of it. Due to some unregulated policies, the essential resources are overexploited by the profit-driven people, leaving the rest to suffer and forcing the displaced people to find other means of livelihood. Undoubtedly, industries contribute immensely to global warming. The unchecked release of harmful gaseous substances leads to warming up of the Earth’s environment, so if such innovations and techniques are introduced that will treat the waste of the industries before it gets released into the atmosphere, it will help immensely in reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide and other gases.

Political Perspective :

Political factors play an essential role in ensuring a safe and secure environment. The political instability creates an impediment in the road towards sustainable development. The political policies have to be framed to make the best use of its indigenous resources without hampering the environment. Politics play an essential role in pushing the nation towards development. Any government that faces political instability becomes susceptible to inflation, corruption, and other economic crunches, thus becoming vulnerable from an environmental point of view. Suppose the nations come together and pledge to reduce carbon emission and switch to more sustainable and pollution-free resources. In that case, this can pave the way towards resolving climate change to some extent. The government needs to take some stern steps now to save the future that seems bleak right now. The young people and kids are the asset for a country, and if they are instilled with the thought of protecting and saving their environment can do a lot more. Small steps that make a huge difference are:

  • Minimizing the travel through the air.
  • Switching to electric cars.
  • Encouraging the people to go for bicycles or walk for short distances.
  • Offering low taxes on eco-friendly products.
  • Increasing tax on environmentally harmful products.
  • Making it mandatory to plant at least ten saplings each year by every person.
  • Expanding the information about the hazardous effects of climate change.
  • Limiting the use of single-use plastic.
  • The general public can use alternative options for saving the environment and much more.

The heatwaves in Europe, melting of a glacier in the Antarctic, unprecedented hurricanes in Central America, floods, and droughts in the Indian sub-continent are just a few repercussions of the destruction created by us. It is a disaster created by us, for us. We do have the power to undo the damage, but if we failed to recover, the cost is not only high but quite challenging to pay.
