Doodhpathri
Doodhpathri is a hill station in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The name “Doodpathri” literally means Valley of Milk. Sheikh ul Aalam, the famous saint of Kashmir, has prayed in Doodhpathri. once when he was in search of water to offer prayers, he pricked the ground with his stick to search for water and milk gushed out. He spoke to the milk that you can only be used for drinking and not for performing ablution and hearing this, milk changed itself to water and so it got its name Doodpathri. The water which flows at Doodhpathri has a milky appearance and remains very cold throughout the year. The lush green grasses spread over the vast meadows add to its beauty. Doodhpathri has a grassy landscape with a diversity of multicolored flowers. The famous Tosamaidan meadow is to the west of Doodpathri.
Geography Of Doodhpathri
Doodhpathri lies in a bowl-shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. It is at an altitude of 2,730 m (8,957 ft). Doodhpathri has snow-clad mountains and meadows of Pine Fir and Deodar trees. Its meadows have wildflowers such as daisies, forget-me-nots, and butter cups during spring and summer. Doodhpathri is having no own permanent settlements at all however In summer shepherds from the plains bring cattle for grazing.
Doodhpathri is a beautiful meadow and the grass looks like a green carpet. A beautiful gushing river reverberates with the wind and flows in the middle of the meadows. The river lends a splendid charm to Doodhpathri. The place looks very beautiful and pleasant.
Lesser-Known location
Doodhpathri is new on the tourist map of Jammu Kashmir valley. Due to this, Doodhpathri is less known. However, it has become a real hit among the local visitors. There is no construction, any market, or hotel in the area that is why the trip is always going to last for a day only and one needs to keep his lunch. Tea and snacks are available in local shops.
Traveling to the area is a bit exhausting because of the steep slopes and curvy road, but the place is worth the energy. The first bus stop to Doothpathri is in the Budgam district however one needs to hire a vehicle to Khansahib in Budgam. From the Khansahib stand, cabs travel to Doodhpathri.
