Jack of all trades and master of some.

Jack of all trades and master of some.

How did you feel about Brexit? What were your thoughts related to Aukus? How well do you think economies are recovering around the world? What has been happening to your mental health due to covid? What’s your opinion about the vaccines available in the market? So many questions followed by so many ideas. You must be knowing the answer to some or all of them since information gets delivered to our emails or chats every second; we don’t hesitate from keeping a tab on all the world happening – mostly major ones.
The above questions are highly subjective, yet they have some specific objectives. We all have some particular interest in a specific aspect of everyday life. Be it science, arts, social science, or any other. Earlier, it was thought that knowing about a specific field is enough and the only requirement to be successful. It was said that one need not have a finger in every pie. Minding one’s own business was much revered. It was considered quite unruly to know about all and master none. As it is said, half knowledge is dangerous. Staying focused only on one aspect was termed to be the means to excel in the field. But in today’s world, how well does it fit? Is it sufficient to know about only one thing and let go of other things? It is known to all that everything in this world is highly correlated. Learning about one aspect and ignoring others doesn’t fit well. One needs to know about other fields too. Being highly engaged with only one part never assures excellence. One has to have flexibility. The more one tries to adjust to the changing circumstances, the more well-versed one becomes.
However, this doesn’t imply one shouldn’t stick to one goal. Sticking to the goal is a prerequisite to being flexible. When one has a set goal, one moulds oneself in all aspects to reach it. The problem arises when one refuses to make adjustments while going for it. One can indeed have the upper hand in more than one field. Having an interest in diverse areas should not be discouraged, as one can excel in more than one field. This modern world changes in the blink of an eye, and if one person finds himself incapable of mastering some new skill, he is doomed for the rest of his life.  As it goes, nothing is impossible, not even mastering many fields in one go. If one wants to keep on exploring more skills and is more than happy in getting involved in multiple things, that person will eventually master some skills. To one’s surprise, a person may be the jack of all trades but can be the master of some!
